Tension Producing Statements:
- It probably won’t work
- I should not feel this way
- If you really cared you would…
- I am not as smart and attractive as she is
- He makes me so mad
- I can’t understand it
- I’m getting nervous
- I’ll disappoint them and let them down
- I’m not good enough
- I’ve never been any good at this.
- I’ll never do this right
- You can’t make any money doing that
- Everything depends on this
- If I don’t reach that goal, it will be terrible
- If others disagree with me, I must be wrong
- He ought to know what I’m feeling
- It must be my fault
- I will never get it done in time
- If I don’t get good grades, my future is ruined

Tension Reducing Statements:- It is not worth getting upset over
- I’m not going to let my emotions get involved in that
- I can choose to not get angry
- I can handle it
- It’s okay to make mistakes
- Regardless of how I do, I can learn from it
- I hope it happens but I am not going to expect it to
- It is okay to be me and to feel the way I do
- I’ll compare myself with myself rather than with others
- Worry won’t help solve the problem
